NYC Data Explorer Development & Award!

So after a while of working on my NYC Restauraunt Inspection project, I realized I could make it so much more. I took another look at the OpenData Site for New York City and found there was a TON of information available.

After about a month of development, I came up with the New York City Data Explorer. It allows you to explorer and interact with numerous data-sets from New York City.

Everything from:

  • School Demographics & Test Information
  • Pothole Repairs
  • NYPD Complaints
  • FDNY Responses
  • 311 Requests

In the middle of development, I found out that NYC and Socrata were hosting a contest to see who could make the best use of the data they provide. After some final tweaking to the website, I had submitted it. Now, I didn't make the website specifically for this contest, I just thought it was a cool coincidence and that it'd be fun to submit it.

Well, after a month, I had found out that I got 3rd place in the Open Data Award category!

With winning that award, my project is going to be featured on the NYC OpenData website and I'll be receiving a letter of recognition from NYC Mayor, Bill De Blasio!

Now that I've finished my recent move to Philly, I'm excited to get started on some more work for the project!
